Techno 4 Mixes.

The mixes on this page are used with the TECHNO 4 programme. If any of the mixes contain any samples from the other EJay programmes then you will not be able to hear the full mix unless you have these programmes as well... The mixes are all zipped, because they are faster for you to download. If a mix has any "imported" or "tweeked" samples, they are normally saved into the mix, but it makes the file size much larger. Any message or text that you want to send with your mix will be added as well, unless stated otherwise..

Please note right mouse clicking the download buttons on this page and choosing save as will not work as they are only links to the actual download page in order for downloads to be counted.

US2K Review: (Original J-Jay Rview) This is Nathan's first mix submission to the site, and I found it to be an atmospheric and dramatic mix, practically euphoric in it's tones and vox samples... The keys and spheres provide a chilling background to the haunting vocals, and make up for the better part of the tune... The bass goes o.k, but the beats sound a little out of sync for me, and seem to detract from the overall theme, but maybe that's the intented aim here, being a housey breakbeat...(??) lol... I think there's some good basics in here, which could be built upon, because it does get a bit samey in the second half, and this could do with more build up to finish off, or maybe a variation around what is a pretty good main theme...

(US2K Says) The artist made their own break beat with EJay which impresses me a lot so I think they deserved an 8 at least.

Hi Nigel, a very happy new year to everyone, so let's all be thrilled with this delicious blend swinging crazy !!!!!!!!!

US2K Review: The mix begins immediately with a full atmospheric morphing musical collage. To first things I notice are some vocoded synth/vox sounds, a bass line and main four on the floor bass drum, accent snare pattern. Listening more I hear a higher octave synth and subtle right panned warbling acid line, and string/pads entering the mix every so often. This musical theme which moves all-round the stereo-field in a wonderful way I will refer to as the main theme in further references.

Seven seconds into the mix and a higher octave synth is used to create a rising fill effect, whilst all high frequency instruments and percussion leave the mix allowing the bass drum to gain strength in such a way it almost sounds like a heartbeat readying anticipation in the listener for the return of the main theme, which it does shortly afterwards (hi hat replaced with a more subtle shaker) without an obvious fill or drum roll. The result works though, and only shows breaking the musical theory guidelines works sometimes. When the main theme returns it brings with it eerie shout "in the distance" this time.

John Samely' s skill in mastering is apparent even with Ejay, the sense of depth is so realistic in keeping with the title of the mix. I could imagine being up a mountain or in a dense juggle or rain forest. As I originally mentioned the musical soundscape kind of reminds me of the 'Mummy Returns' scenes in the mountains.

At the sixteen seconds position an extra hard bass drum hit introduces the return of a powerful hi-hat and a succession of other percussive instruments to drive the rhythm harder each time.

Around the twenty seven position there is even wooden blocks or coconuts in the mix, shortly before a bridge is announced with a "power-down" sound effect followed by a the heavily used "Get Ready" sample but cleverly mixed in to sound haunting in a totally original way. The bridge is formed by all drums except the hi-hat leaving the mix, the introduction of an alternative bass synth to join the high octave synth which has been left to lead again.

At the end of the bridge another new sound is heard too, a percussive square wave plink which is used as a fill to announce a change but also simulates a water droplet, matching the . Yet again the rest of the main them returns this time with yet another bass line, at a higher octave, and more plucky and percussive in character, shortly joined by a ride cymbal too. Other sounds are heard, including what sounds like a wild animal.

The energy builds to that of a tribal war dance, before a very short bridge sectioned is created by dropping the bass drum and accent snare, and the use of a whoosh sound effect low in the mix. The purpose of this bridge of course is to allow the percussive bass-line to take lead and resulting in a new very danceable and catchy hook. The bridge ends with most of the main theme returning without the ride but with a clap rhythm layered on the accent snare. There are also numerous reverb treated vox samples, intentionally low in the mix so they sound distant and mysterious and tribal. The pads/strings also seem to be gaining strength.

One minute twenty six seconds into the mix the ride does return although less powerful to drive the listener to a major bridge of middle 8 length which begins thirty eight seconds later. The start of the bridge begins with all drums leaving the mix except the ride which somehow is faded down to in such a way it acts as a fill or drum roll. There are also some additional vox samples to add interest and maybe perform the role of a crash.

The percussive bass line leaves the mix for the bridge also allowing a new descriptive acid melody, answered by another synth and some animal sounds to form a new interesting musical idea. There is a single bang of a tom drum first to add some intensity then it is used a bit later to play a rhythm reminding the listener of the tribal theme.

The tom leaves the mix and the synths and sound become the focal point until a drum fill is used to re-introduce the rhythmic bass line hook and yet more vox, animal sounds and other sound effects. It is joined to with series of orchestral crashes to announce the drum pattern is about to return.

The drum pattern’ s return announced by an eerie laugh, yet again there is initially no ride, however there is a surprise for the listener because a flute/pan pipe also enters the mix to answer the bass line hook. In addition and an array of wooden percussion instrument sounds join the drum arrangement. All these elements result is another atmospheric mysterious jungle theme for the conclusion of the mix.

The ride returns at the two minute forty two seconds position adding some energy and drive for some final intense moments, before instruments and sound effects start leaving the mix until the three minute eight seconds position is reached where a musical idea consisting of remaining drums and percussive bass line, and deeper bass underneath are used to restate the tribal theme very affectively, before the final moments of the mix involving further reduction of the drum arrangement a whoosh, sea gull sounds and some vox sound effects are used as a fill to allow the entire mix to come to a halt cleanly on the echo/reverb tail of these sounds at the three minute thirty seconds position.

My final evaluation of this mix is Catchiness (10/10) , Originality (10/10), Mixing and mastering including use of delay, reverb, stereo-position (10/10), Use of Variation (10/10), Musical Structure (10/10), Use of drum fills and sound effects to add interest or announce changes (10/10), General musical skill (10/10). I can only conclude it was better than I first thought, because after-all this mix sounds no way like an Ejay production, the smooth mixing and layering of all the known sounds but in such a way to make them sound so original and like a studio production. I think this is my favourite mix at the moment now and I give it overall a 10+. This techno production could be used for a film score, but I am certain parts of it would go down well on the dance floor for techno fans too, I also highly recommend it to fans of any type of electronic music, for the atmosphere alone.

Hello John, My 2nd song, Nobilis, is shorter than Genesis, but still worth a listen to nonetheless.

US2K Review: (Original J-Jay Review) What Adrian has sent in here, is not a mix as such, but more like a number of short sequences... Count them them up and see what total you can deduct from this quite good array of different highlights... Most aspects of the sound, like the stereo panning, crossovers, and continuity are good, as are some of the different parts of this tune... I particularly the the big bassline intro, but not the total change in direction at the 32secs mark... At 1:15 another change brings in the meatier part of the tune, which gradually begins to pick up the pace and tempo, before the fade away at the ending... Any one section from this multi-part tune could have been used as a main theme for a tune, particularly the two on the intro, or maybe the middle section, and then built on, or elaborated into a better, longer running tune... There's some really good, individual little set pieces in here, but as a whole it's too varied and needed more direction...

I greet. Long not ago, I wrote but I had not on any piece no idea. I greet, and add new mix. Mix is simple enough maybe, but it falls in ear.

US2K Review: (Original J-Jay Review) Considering this mix only uses basic samples, it has some interestesting little combinations here and there... Comprising mainly of a lot of short, sharp, and quite varying sequences, this is a tune which could be built on really well I think...?? Some parts of the tune are very basic, and it shows, and some other parts, particularly near the end, sound a whole lot better, purely because of the way the samples have been better picked, matched, and edited into it... A tune which starts off simply, and gradually gets better as it progresses for me.

This is my third mix I've made since I got Techno eJay 4, but this one is more lengthy, and I had more experience with the recording formats, so here you go, and enjoy!

US2K Review: (Original J-Jay Review) Adrian's first mix submission to the site has a nice and easy lead-in, which gradually builds up in volume as the bass samples build up in both volume and intensity... The intro is quite good, but after about the 1:10 mark, we get the same bassline more or less right through to the ending, which is a pity because when the synths, pads, and vocals are added to the tune as well, it's got a really nice mellow sound to it... Maybe if some drums and/or hats had been added after half way or so, it would have given the tune a bit punch, and carried on towards the big finale... As it is, it's a good first one to send in, and a good tune to chill to...

E.Q's Goldtooth mix.

US2K Review: (Original J-Jay Review) This one from Mark is better put together, and sounds more coherent, even though the timing is out on the tracks again slightly... Some nice tonal qualities to this tune, especially the way the intro is led in and the voxy samples mixed with some tinkly bells...!! Odd, but it works o.k on the ambient break in the middle of the tune. I think a better title might have been anaesthetic rather than toothache, because it's not too much of a pain to listen to, but rather dreamlike and dreamy...
